Toorak Residence

A tranquil family home with frameless floor to ceiling windows that blur the boundary between inside and out.

This extraordinary home on a constrained block in Toorak is the result of close cohabitation of architecture and landscape design. Rob Mills Architects has transformed the space into a three-level sanctuary, with four bedrooms, three en suites, a basement garage, pool and deck area, plus a lift servicing all floors including the rooftop terrace. An outdoor collaboration with landscaper Paul Bangay completes the home, achieving perfectly manicured lush garden environs.

Surrounded by walls of glass featuring timeless aluminium sliding systems, the living dining areas open out onto an outdoor living space and swimming pool, creating seamless internal-external integration. Prioritising space and light, the home maximizes abundant northern light and high ceilings throughout multiple living areas with frameless high performance noise abating floor to ceiling windows that blur the boundary between inside and out.

Making the most of the northern orientation, the pool hugs the full height glazing of the ‘winter room’. When the sun hits the pool, it reflects up and creates beautiful and soothing dancing light through the frameless windows on the ceiling.

OPTIMISING SPACE THROUGH INTELLIGENT DESIGN

Intelligent design optimises the space, creating views through the expansive glazing to the lush landscaping as well as ensuring adequate light and ventilation throughout.

There is a unique balance between creating something that is vibrant and luxurious, as well as liveable and timeless. Flowing light-filled spaces, enveloped in landscape, grounded in natural material are all woven seamlessly together.
